Why Should We Eat Healthy-Spiritual Take!

The movie Eat Pray Love might evoke a strange response as to why should we eat, pray and love....for ourselves?
Here I shall give you the spiritual take on why it is necessary for us to eat healthy.
First and foremost the bodies that we have can be divided into 5 koshas or layers.I am sure you have heard of those Russian Dolls and how they fit into each one on top of the other one. In the same way the outermost body is called the Food Body or Annamaya kosha.
We need to take care of this outer body very well otherwise some problems may occur on the inside also. So eating healthy food is a must for us. eating healthy does not mean that we have to be a vegan or vegetarian but it means that we should ensure the food is good to eat and as fresh as possible without any foreign bodies contaminating it. Now the staunch will say that it is not right to eat animals. But even the Gods have eaten them so why do we have to deny that. Animal sacrifices are mentioned in almost every other holy book. Even the saints partake of it.
Healthy food should be clean and fresh as possible and we should wash it before having it. Fruits and vegetables are also good source of nutrients so we can have them raw as well as cooked. Some of the materials can be foul smelling but can be very important for our body. Cheese and curds are fermented and so they too fall into the above category. Wines and other beverages are fermented too. The Gods too have a fill of that so it is perfectly alright to savor them.
Here all things are to be taken for healthy living and not for excesses.
Excesses happen only because of insatiable desires which arise in our bodies.
All foods and beverages are to be taken in moderation only and not as an indulgences.
The outermost body houses the other four bodies hence we need to keep it in perfect shape.
Our body can be compared to a container and if there is a dent or leakages in it, doesn't it affect the contents also?
Similarly if we misuse our outer body we will damage the other bodies and that may carry depressing results in the long run.
In most of the spiritual texts it is mentioned that physically fit people can achieve better results than those not physically fit. Why is it?
If we keep a small stone in our shoe and walk, will we not feel discomfort?
In the same way any disturbances in the first body affects the other bodies.
If we have a cut or a bruise,we keep on feeling hurt and the mind is constantly drawn towards that hurt. Our Mind Body or Manomaya Kosha is the second body and that gets disturbed. If the RAM memory of the mind is used for such acts how can we perform other important tasks?
So let us take care of the first body by eating healthy, keeping diseases at bay, exercising regularly and being physically fit so that we can keep all our other bodies in shape for higher activities like contemplating on finer stuff in life.
So Eat Healthy and Stay Healthy!
