Why Does The Success Formula Not Work?

I was watching a video of Steve Jobs today and I felt he is repeating all that the others have dished out earlier but then why is he so successful and not all the others who watch that video and take inspiration from it?
The first thing to note is he is successful so he is giving that talk and not you.
He gave some reasons for his success. First is his disease which can kill him instantly.
See, if we too have a sword hanging on our heads of death and not seeing tomorrow we will also do what is necessary to win. Secondly, if the parent looses the child just because it is kidnapped, will he not do what it takes to get it back? So when his baby called Apple Computers got kidnapped he fought back to get it back.
So it means we too have to get to that stage in life when it is so important to us that we do only that and nothing else. Then we will be successful like Steve Jobs.
I am reminded of a story from puranas where the disciple asks the Guru why he couldn't see God?
The Guru replies that to see God, you gotta have that ultimate urge and it should be your only ultimate wish. The disciple does not understand that.
The Guru takes the disciple for a bath in the river and while having the bath, he dunks the head of the disciple in the water and does not let it off the disciple is chocking and gasping for breath. The disciple is flabbergasted and asks the Guru whether he wanted to kill him?
The Guru replies that the way in which you struggled for that gasp of breath is the same way in which your desire to see God should be there. then only can you meet him.
So here we get to see, our success will only come to us if we have that incessant and never ending desire and need to be successful. It should be a matter of life and death to us. No great lectures will ever affect us or great words will make us change our stance till it becomes a matter of life and death to us.
We can read all the goody goody stuff or go for lectures or watch inspirational stuff but that will only make us want success but not the craving for it. To have that craving for success we got to have the will, the urge, the verve, the nerve, the guts and the acumen to make it and lastly that something which will push us at the edge of the cliff. So let us work towards that ultimate push or a gasp in life and make success ours.

I fully endorse your concluding views.Unless one has passion, commitment and strong urge to do what he or she dreams of , nothing concrete will happen.

Success & Failure

Yesterday one of my disciples came and asked me to say some words for her future. She was celebrating her 20th birthday. Though I speak on spiritual I told her that I will talk about her career and other such opportunities. I asked her what she would like to do after she completes her studies and the answer was-I don't know! Torito De Pucara in Peru
