Selfless Love

Image
What is selfless love? What do you do to the people you love? You do things for them and you sacrifice for them. Haven't you seen your parents or spouse sacrifice for you? Maybe you haven't but at least you have heard what it means to sacrifice for someone else? Soldiers sacrifice their lives for the country, isn't that so? When you love someone and truly care for them then you go out of the way to make them comfortable. You eat the leftovers and offer them the better part of the meal. You eat the sides of the bread and offer them the soft part of it. If the butter is getting over then you butter their slices but not yours when you are cleaning out the butter box. The mother tucks her kids into bed and may stay awake when they are tired and sick but she won't sleep. You have read the story of the gift of Magi when you were a kid and have always wanted to emulate those characters. Even in love or marriage which is based on love, the one who is truly in love does ...

Conditioned Mind

We have conditioned our mind to such a level that if you are called out by another name you will not look up. Remember the Emily of Devil Wears Prada? Our ego makes us believe that we are the name we are. Any other name won't be right!  The aliases we use on the internet for maintaining anonymity, gives us false sense of protection. But anyone who wants to hack into our name can do so just by a little effort. Everyone who is someone has pages and pages of stuff linking us to our true bodily identity.  Even a cellphone doesn't give you any incognito status. You are traceable and knowable the moment you resort to these devices. People are foolish enough to leave traces of who they are even without their own knowledge. They believe they are the smartest but they turn out to be the dumbest.  Take the case of the thieves who robbed a house. While keeping the woman of the house away from the rest of the thieves who were taking the booty out, this silly thief, kissed the woman o...

Why Do We Possess?

Why do we possess, when we know that nothing belongs to us? We know that we have to leave everything behind when we go! The waiter brought fresh glasses of water in which one was half full. Everyone drank from others except this one. Now, we don't drink from a glass which we are suspicious about, that someone else has drunk from. But it changes when we drink from our beloveds glass even if it has some remnants in it! We identify with I, me and mine!  Our possessiveness is seen in everything so we don't eat what others have left behind.  In spiritual, the disciple is first taught to ask from unknown people. To beg for food and shelter. This is to remove shame and the biggest obstacle called EGO.  People are possessive about their relatives, houses, food, clothing, etc.. Those who come into spiritual with such baggages of worldly trappings need to be freed from this idea of "mine," hence the Guru works in removing this ignorance from His disciples.  Those who believe t...

Story Of Faith-Part 3

He shone as a great dancing star in the early 80's and now he is a judge on some dance shows. My friend was his close buddy who was also his man Friday. They once decided to go to Shirdi after the pack up of shooting. They met at Dadar railway station to catch the late night Manmad Passenger which started at 11.30pm. They selected a compartment which was quite empty and they chatted away till early in the morning when the train dropped them to Nasik. They got out and freshened up and had some refreshments from the vendors. They got inside a crowded bus to go to Shirdi. They were separated by a large crowd so they took the either end of the bus. Three hours of jaunty bus ride later they met each other at the Shirdi bus-stand. They went to have a bath and later they took darshan by standing in the regular queue. Those were the times when he was not so well known so no one recognized him then. They had a meal at the kahanaval of the Shirdi sansthan and then started the journey back to...

Story of Faith-Part 1.

One of my disciples decided to go to Shirdi to get to talk to Saibaba face to face. She being a VIP was given a special place to sit in meditation all day long right in front of Saibaba's samadhi. She cried her heart out to take her smoothly through the travails of life to Baba. On the last day of her sojourn she was sitting till shej aarti or last prayer of the day before Baba goes to sleep. After the aarti, she felt very hungry so she decided to have a pavbhaji from a road side vendor. She asked him to make a pav bhaji and while she was standing and waiting for him to make and give her, she noticed an old man asking her for something to eat. She offered him and the dog which accompanied him a pav bhaji. He insisted on two, one for himself and the other for his dog. She gave him and the dog two pav bhajis which they ate very heartily. After finishing the old man grabbed her hand and tied a string round her wrist. She tried to twist her hand out of his grasp but he was too strong f...
