To become comfortable in the uncomfortable, writes one of my devotees. I disagree with that. Man tries hard to become comfortable in the uncomfortable and then complacent soon enough. Whether it is the job, home, marriage, place, position, diseases or death. I had often wriggled myself in the fourth position of a three seater bench in a train from my hometown while going to work. You should see the videos of people pushed into a train while closing doors by the conductors. They are all packed like sardines going to work. Now imagine doing that for many many years to earn a living. Ask anyone who travels down the tube or metro rails. It all starts as a simple compromise during your childhood. Mom says that we are poor people and cannot afford the luxury of a rich man’s home so we have to make do with whatever we have. We have to be happy and content and not complain about it. The term Love Thyself or love yourself is a highly misused term. It does not mean to act selfishly and only bother about yourself. It doesn’t mean to hate others or not bother about them. It also does not mean that you have to pamper yourself to death or become overindulgent. Here I will explain the meaning of the words but have some patience with me since I am going to take a very roundabout route to get there. So hang on. It is believed that God lives within us. But if you were to read any spiritual text, it is mentioned therein that God doesn’t actually live within but an essence of that is somewhere within. Man is supposed to have been made in the image of God. Every human being believes that small kids are godly and some old sages or saints are also divine. Then the idea that God lives within is very vague. We are humans comprising of elements which can be seen, heard, touched and so on. Why is man so confused while making decisions in life? Why does he lose focus about things that really matter the most? Instead of attacking the main subject, why does he behave so irrationally? A man has a very bad childhood, where he is never accepted at all by his own blood parents. He is always blamed as a mistake and is told that they should have aborted him. He is made to feel like a terrible miscast. Later on he is given for adoption but the scars runs deep. He focuses on other things to get to a better position. Then he behaves erratically with his own children and people around him. He abuses his own kids and wife. His employees and servants too feel his uncontrollable wrath. A wife undergoes severe beatings and physical torture at the hands of her husband. There is no love or compassion in the marriage. Every single day is a torture. Sudden changes and disruptions creates chaos in life. Gradual and systematic alteration in any system takes years to change the fabric of that system. Sometimes man has to do a drastic and disruptive action to move far ahead exponentially. In India, we have the political system which doesn’t allow big movements since we are the largest democracy. Everything has to be done by consensus and public support. Yet, the current government was disrupting everything by introducing sweeping changes. Take the case of demonetization, hardly anyone was consulted before taking the steps. It put the entire nation in a big shift. What good it has done to the nation can only be told much later, but still it happened. In another country, namely the USA, a new incumbent has started a movement which is bringing about tremendous upsets.
