True Person

One of my friends wrote on his status message about understanding the true person that you are, so I was spurred to write on that.
What do you mean by being true to yourself and who is this yourself that we are referring to?
That brings me to a satsang with one of my disciples yesterday on understanding our true calling, inherent nature, destiny and free will. All the above are connected so let me give you the low down on that.
First let us know that we are all connected to our destiny. The destiny that we talk about is just a framework within which we operate. That would clearly mean that we are fish in a fish tank but we cannot move beyond that four walls of the tank. That is the overall destiny. That is defined by our karmas. Whatever prarabdha(current) karma that we are born with we have to follow the diktats of that.Meaning whatever species that we are born as is our past karmas diktats. We are as if on a rail line which is confinement and we cannot move beyond the rails or we derail. Now when we consider free will, that would mean we have the liberty to move within the fish tank in whichever way we wish to. The moment we take charge of our I'ness we are falling into the trap of karmic loop. When we say-I did it! we have fallen into the trap of karma. When we follow the big fish living on its body we do not face any such loops. This big fish can be called the Guru. Now let me explain the true nature. That which makes us do what we have to without any external stimuli is called the true calling. Take the case of a musical prodigy. Music comes to him on its own accord. That is in his nature. Or business acumen comes to those few without much effort. Then we say business is in his blood! Similarly we too have some tendency which draws us to our own willingly is our true calling. I shall elaborate about it later on.
Now I come to our inherent nature or that we all have but do not have any idea about it. Our inherent nature is to move towards the Supreme Consciousness without any impetus. But we have no idea about it since we are covered by so many shells or coverings(umbrellas) that we forget what we are and who we are. You surely have seen the huge offices who have covered glass and no sun peeping inside that they have lights on 24/7. They have concealed the sun by covering up. That could also mean that we become blind to sun. The sun would be like the effulgent Self or Supreme Consciousness. Just because we are blind does not mean that the sun is not there! So our inherent nature is to move towards that effulgence of the Self but because of the coverings we forget that there is the true Self somewhere. The false light of money, power, name, fame etc makes us forget our true nature and Self.
So when we awaken to our true nature and calling we are following the correct path and the loops of karma do not exist for us. That one who guides us on our true calling and shows us the path which is suitable for us is our Guru. Any karma that is performed will be taken over by him. He destroys all our false tendencies(vasanas) and draws us closer to the truth and Self.

Dear Suresh, nice post. When I responded to Rajesh's post I was hesitating because this "true" person concept is very very deep. We do not have time to live our present moments because of constant external stimuli and we are literally running from one thought to another. Most of our thoughts are escapes from the "true" or "present". Seldom we have those moments when we are just "self" and nothing else.... how do we extend those moments is the constant struggle and an uphill task. Looks like you are on your way. Best wishes. Prasenjeet
p.s. I liked the example of RamaKrishna, because I am a disciple of Swami Swahananda who is 89 years old and is part of the Vedanta Society of Southern California (an arm of RamaKrishna mission).

Over a period of time I have realised that what we want for ourselves and what is destined for us are two different things.
So how do we realise our true nature and how do we come to know what is destined for us?
Secondly we all need a Guru to guide us, but how do we get a Guru or is it destiny again which guides us to the Guru.
My questions may sound a bit silly but I genuinely what to know
