Wrong Side Of Karma

Today I was asked a very important question by someone I was meeting for the first time. His question was if I have accumulated some bad karma, can I delete it by doing some good karma?
Now let me tell you if you have taken a loan, you gotta give it back and if you have lent someone money, you will have to take it back, right?
So If we have accumulated bad karma...let me give you one example here for bad karma. Maybe you have slapped someone hard or robbed some money from someone, then it is required that you get slapped back or that other person robs you of it sometime in the future life. Now let us see the possibilities of that other person and you coming together in another life face to face...one in a million chance, see! So you got to take birth so many times. Wow, that is very silly!
In the same way, if someone has beaten you up to a pulp, you will have to beat that guy up sometime in your future life also. But by saying that after beating you up, he takes you to the hospital, would that delete the karmic bond?
Not at all. For beating you up, he has to be beaten up by you and again for taking you to the hospital(which is a good karma) he will have to be taken to the hospital by you too in some life. So remember it never squares up the way you look at it.
So just know by doing good to someone, he has to do good to you and by doing bad to someone, he has to do the same to you too.
So it never squares up good for bad or bad for good, so do what you got to and suffer whichever way you want to. The good and the bad way also.
Now I know what you will ask me...so do you want me to do nothing or something?
The answer is not so simple, but anyway you got the gist of what I say.
Doing good does not mean you have scored well or doing bad does not mean you have buggered up. It only means, that has to be equalled up in the future somehow, somewhere and sometime

Yet it is the fear of bad Karma that drives people to temples and take a dip in the Ganges!!

My philosophy is just be happy and let others be happy.

Purba, talking about Ganga I am reminded of Shankaracharya telling his disciple that even crocodiles live in Ganga and that does not make them holy. When the feet of the holy(saints) touch Ganga does it become holy.Hence the power of temples dwindles and the idols become museum showpieces when holy people stop visiting some temples.Tirupati is holy coz of holy saints visiting it and not because of the statue there.Yes, your philosophy is good. Have a detached attitude and you will do well. God bless you.

Is there no escape from this loop then? No liberation at all?

Sure there is liberation Bhagyashree. That happens in two ways-by the grace of God and Guru. They take charge of your karmas and you can then get liberated. The hows and whys are again explained in one of my old blogs. It is like giving them the power of attorney in life.
