The Journey-Part 1.

I will explain the journey we take in our lives towards the ultimate goal.
Let us start with the destination that every embodied being has to somehow reach. This elusive goal or destination is called Self, Enlightenment, Realization, Brahman, Jehovah, God, Allah, Ahura Mazda or That!
We have to begin somewhere in some human life. Now that we have one can we just consider to begin the journey now?
So we begin from here to get there.
Now I shall describe the types of people who are around us in this journey.
There are those who will not go on the journey like those who know about the destination but are not keen on taking on the journey, those who have never heard of such a place, those who know but are too busy with their mundane lives to notice anything, those who are absolutely not tuned into the mundane also, those who live the life of an animal-eating,drinking,sleeping and sex, those who think that material realm is their destination, the devilish who know the nether world is for them, the ones who commit to the cause but cancel the journey due to tamas or inertia, lethargy or laziness.
The ones who take the journey- there are those who pack so well and carry all the paraphernelia for the journey. The ones who do not pack but expect the others to pack for them and keep everything ready- these are the types who have a lot of expectations and want servants to carry their load also. Then there are those who want everyone to be aboard including their husbands, wives, relations and children- these never make it ever since they cannot take care of everyones needs. To handle individual egos is always a pain- remember the scene from Home Alone!
Now we shall proceed from here to the train or transport that will take us there.
This is a vehicle which moves by motive power of the Ultimate only.
That means the Grace of the Lord or the One who will be the guide on this journey.
The tickets are issued by these two only and you may or may not be on it.
The things that are required to go on this strange journey are guide books or as we call them Holy Books, prayers or bhajans, kirtans, songs in praise of the Lord, fit body and fit mind since it is very ardrous one, proper food and clothing and good habits, discipline in life, co- passengers who may or may not accompany you till the end and above all the One who will be guiding you through the journey-the Guru. He is also the driver, ticket collector, hamal-coolie, your personal maid or servant, supplier of special favors, announcer and so on.
I shall continue in my next part on how the journey begins and what is it we hope to get when we reach there.
