Myths-Stories For Simple Minds!
When we look at our mythological stories we wonder sometimes whether we are telling our kids the truth or are we telling them lies.
They sound so unreal and full of unbelievable stuff.
Take the case of Ramayana where we get to meet a Demon King from Lanka with ten heads. No archaeological fact can support that kind of creature.
If that were the case then we should have found some sort of mummified bodies, remains of some bones, some sort of evidence which would firm up our belief in these tales from the past.
If there were demons with bodies as tall as the skyscrapers then these should be available to us in the form of remains like bones or body tissues or some evidence somewhere which can lead us to them.
If there were other species like demons then we should find them in other than the homo sapiens species. But does any data account for them?
We still find remains of dinosaurs and other creatures but not a single shard of evidence of any kind for the demons mentioned in our myths.
Take the case of the demon killed by Krishna called Keshi or horse demon, Shankhachuda or conch shelled demon, Dhenukasura or ass demon and so on. Doesn't it make you wonder why we have such demons and yet no evidence of theirs anywhere!
Let me tell you here that these stories have been written for simple souls who are ignorant.
Ignorance does not mean not educated here but those who are educated are the highly ignorant kind in such lore's or myths. They do not understand the true purport of such stories so they demean them.
How would you explain to your 4 year child the theory of relativity? Or for that matter to a 10 year old? You gotta make up some sort of story to explain that difficult stuff to him, right?
So how do you explain to an ignorant one pride, prejudice, anger, greed, lust, brutality, treachery, spiritual ignorance, God and so on?
So stories got written for such simple minded ones to understand the truth.
But these ignorant ones got so much lost in these stories that they took them to be real.
Imagine a Harry Potter becoming real for a youngster.
Hagrid appears very real, so does Batman or Dracula.
To support that there are castles like the those in Transylvania and other places.
Creatures those drink blood became real so did Hannibal Lecter.
Now if we were to start believing in them, is it the fault of the writer?
Let us understand the truth in all these beautiful stories and take only that which makes sense to us.
Let us not make these 10 headed monsters come to life.
Let us be with the Gods and understand the truth here. That is called discrimination between the real and the unreal.
